Chromatic Harmony
Chromatic harmony in music blends the atonal with the synchronous to create tension and release. Similarly, in visual art, chromatic harmony integrates simple and complex, geometric and organic, to create tension and resolution for the viewer.
Jackie Kazarian’s vibrant, kinetic paintings and Yvette Kaiser Smith’s wall-mounted geometric abstractions are similar in their embrace of color yet divergent in their emotional state. Kazarian’s works appear to be in continual flux, alternating between exuberance and anxiety while Kaiser Smith’s poetic objects are firmly grounded in geometry and a singular material language.
We Are All Antennae
We Are All Antennae is the curatorial debut of artist Amanda Gentry which brings together a select group of artists who have tapped into the frequency of creativity, cultivating voices that rise above the static of our day-to-day.

Exploring Art, Environmental Issues & Creative Expression with Alice Hargrave, Sharon Bladholm and Tracy Ostmann Kaschke
Each of these artists explore the natural world in their art making in different and incredibly unique ways. While Alice Hargrave and Sharon Bladholm explore the interface of art, science, nature and conservation, Tracy Ostmann Haschke uses observations in the natural world to create often life-size avians that seem to ask us questions of ourselves.
Join Lynn Manilow, as she moderates this artist panel discussion focusing on the very pertinent issue of our environment and how this has driven the exploration and expression of these three artists.
Watching You Watching Me
Urban life and the natural world converge as Tracy Ostmann Haschke creates larger-than-life birds that look steadily, sometimes humorously, at the viewer, with a gaze that she intends to be reminiscent of the momentary connection that we sometimes find when making eye contact with a passing stranger, leaving us with the sensation of having glimpsed another’s interior world. Whether playful or pensive, each painting strives to reflect the character, experiences, and perspective of each bird.

Dynamic 3-D Watercolor Workshop with Anne Farley Gaines
This workshop can be serendipitous to watercolor artists for a new, exciting direction in working in the medium. It can also be of terrific value to sculptors and painters in other media for producing preliminary studies for clients to ponder for commissions or for entering competitions. Let us paint, cut, paste and mount together. What you produce could be particularly useful—the holidays are upon us, and ‘tis the season for gift-giving, as well!

A Forest Shouting, Opening Reception
A forest of overlapping and intermingling panels represent the vocalizations of a myriad of species shouting out for our attention in a world where our species, over a relatively short timeline, has managed to silence so many others—a process which has taken on the velocity of a runaway train cascading and silencing as it thunders along.
This work of Alice Hargrave uses the sound wave patterns of threatened bird calls, widening to include a diverse range of species. Loud colorful voices are represented using unexpected colors in a non hierarchical way from a broad spectrum of domains, kingdoms, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species in a body of work that bridges art and science.
This installation is both visual and sonic, including recordings from the wild and archives.

Paper Covers Rock
Stepping into Elizabeth Burke-Dain’s solo exhibition, Rock, Paper, Scissors, viewers encounter color, silhouette, line, light, form, and story. While the title is a direct reference to the children's game, it also describes the media used in the artworks—ceramics, collage, and fabric—to realize this body of work.
Freedom From Freedom To
Movement and sound improvisors from all around Chicago gather in front of a live audience, where they are grouped by chance. Each group performs an improvised set. We fuse diverse artistic backgrounds and practices to create unique and fleeting worlds by way of cross-medium improvisation.
